PIBFM - Celebrating Our 70th Anniversary

By God's grace, the “Primera Iglesia Bautista Fundamental Mexicana” will be celebrating their 70th anniversary in a special church service on Monday, 25th of February at 7:00 pm. This special worship service will be hosted at the church which is currently located on the southeast side of San Antonio, at 455 Avant Ave. The church's history began with humble beginnings in 1943 on the west side of town on West Durango and San Jacinto streets, where Sidney Lanier High School is currently located.

Founding Pastor

The founding Pastor was the late Dr. Manuel C. Ortiz and his loving wife, Belen, who both faithfully worked together for 33 years in this ministry. Their son, the Dr. Manuel G. Ortiz, Jr. was called as pastor on May 27, 1976 after the death of his father.

The Church continues today

The church continues to be used by God and is constant in teaching the gospel through it’s Sunday School Program and active children and youth ministries. The church also actively supports missions in Mexico and in the United States. Another ministry that has been close to both Pastors’ hearts is the biblical education and training of those seeking to serve in God's ministry. The late Dr. Manuel C. Ortiz was instrumental in organizing the “Seminario Biblico Bautista” in 1952. Seeing that the mission field was great and the workers few, he founded the seminary to help educate and prepare those for God's service. Throughout the years, this seminary has graduated numerous students for the mission field both in and out of the United States. The son, Pastor Manuel G. Ortiz, Jr., director of the seminary for the past 36 years, continues to keep the vision and the doors open for biblical preparation and training. The church will also be hosting the 59th “Compañerismo Baustista” fellowship meeting starting on Tuesday, February 26-28th. Delegates from the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America will be in attendance. This fellowship was also organized by the founding Pastor in 1954 that had a vision to unite other hispanic fundamental baptist churches in Christ. To God be the Glory!
